"Weight gain is not always just a matter of lacking willpower, but has more to do with how your brain reacts to what it sees, according to a new study by neuroscientists."

Would be nice if they measured insulin levels before and after and not just a subjective assessment of hunger.
That would mean doing good science, and they can't do that. Everthing they do is in support of a nutritional model that leads to gastric bypass surgery as a medical solution.
I still overeat. Whatever!
"Individuals who are more susceptible to cravings after smelling or seeing food — even if they aren’t hungry — have what researchers call “external food sensitivity,” or EFS."

Which is actually hyperinsulinemia, no? I mean jeez. Next...a pill for EFS.

Apparently (please note major tone of sarcasm throughout following) its not just SEEING and SMELLING high fat/high sugar foods but also actually EATING them can lead to "conditioned hypereating". Don't worry though, "its not an addiction, but it's similar".

Fortunately, the mainstream scientists have a solution which basically boils down to "Retrain[ing] the brain to think, "I'll hate myself if I eat that,"".

Great, an entire nation of carb addicted obese self-haters. Excellent solution.

I really like the part where he calls for the food industry to be a part of the solution. Yep, just like the drug dealers who are working towards decriminilization.

Oh well, I'll just keep over-eating fat, meat, water. . .

BTW - just my $0.02 ! ! !
When I go to a Brazilian steakhouse and attempt to eat every last piece of meat in the place, I have no thoughts of hatred. In fact, I fall in love with myself.

I think the only people hating in that case are the steakhouse owners who are clearly not making their margin on a ZC'er. Especially one who is "Meat Loading" before a race. LOL. Has "Meat Loading" already been coined? I will be using that term from now on when referring to pre-race meals or anytime I need to load up before a long period of non-eating. I'm sure my carb addicted friends will love it!
That's a very good term, thanks. I will borrow it, but I will always give you credit! I'm serious, at that last one I ate at where they didn't have the cards, the guy kept coming to ask me, "Are you still eating, sir?" I was like, "well, yeah!" He just couldn't believe I could eat so much. I wanted to tell him that when you don't eat the side crap, you have more room for the meat!

Matt

Thanks Charles. Feel free to use it all you like and no credit is necessary. Hopefully I will be able to make it up to Chicago for the R & R and the meet-up. I can't wait to put a hurtin' on one of the local all-you-can-eat 'meateries' with a bunch of other ZC'ers. Not sure if I'll make that one or not but I will definitely get to one somewhere, sometime. The sight of four or six or more ZC'ers "Meat Loading" before a race has got to be an aweseom thing! I'll look forward to that! Thanks for the board and all ! ! !
