Hello everyone!
Thanks for setting me up with a journal, Charles
So here I am. I'll be typing out a bit of my story... but to start with, I'm 29 years old and I live in the UK. My last name is not Jones.
I have PCOS, as a result of which I have trouble losing weight. More responsible for my current weight however is how out of control my eating has been since August. Before then, I was doing OK - been experimenting with fasting once or twice a week, and I have been eating low-carb for years but never ZERO. I do know I do best with lower carbs but I never even imagined it would be possible to survive without them entirely.
So I've been devouring the information I found on here and on other Internet places. I've been a subscriber to Charles' blog for months and have learned so much. Now I'm finally ready to really go for it and take the leap. I've done about 10 days this month, but while travelling last week I ate all the wrong things again. So now I'm back and I know I felt great for those 10 days when I did it... I'm ready to commit now.
It's difficult right now to give up sweeteners... I find it really difficult to just "eat to live" - I tend to eat when I'm bored, too. Or even drink (tea, coffee, soft drinks). I just seem to always need to ingest something, have something in my mouth. Habit. How do I break that?!?
Anyway, enough for now - it's good to be here, I really l ook forward to meeting you all.

Hi Bridget. welcome to our forum. Sweeteners were a big thing for me too. I would suggest you just get straight to it and quit them, eat meat and drink water. You might go through a bit of hell for a while but the sooner you do it the sooner you will be on the fast track to health and weight loss. Over time you will find that when you just eat meat and drink water you will only need to injest something when you are truly hungry.
It can seem like a leap of faith when you are new to this but seriously it will be the best decision you have ever made. Keep reading and check out the amazing journals, one very good journal is Margots. From a fellow Brit I wish you luck and look forward to reading about your journey.

Hey Bridget!
Check out Katie (Wolfwood)'s journal; she has PCOS, too, so it might have information you find helpful.
You got some good advice from Claire! As for your Q, my answer is: put fatty meat in your mouth. The urge for sweet and the habit of putting something in your mouth when you aren't hungry will take time to work off.

It's Saturday morning.
I had breakfast - 3 eggs with some coconut oil... and sweetener. Just couldn't face anything else to start the day with. It's the weekend and that's usually my "treat" time... yes I know, I know.
Not having the same thing tomorrow morning - perhaps I'm rationalising but I feel I'm weaning myself off slowly, off the sweet taste? (slowly in this case being just today, because I do intend to have simple scrambled eggs tomorrow)
Looking forward to lunch: minced venison.
On a normal Saturday morning I would have gone to the gym for 2 classes. Not today!

Welcome Bridget, I find eating beef keeps me more satisfied and I quit splenda & sf gum 3 weeks ago.

What is the "sweetener" for? You had three eggs and coconut oil. Whatever did you put sweetener on?

Hi Bridget,
Can't remember who said it, but it was one of the members here. paraphrasing: when dealing with removing "sweet," best option is to rip it off like a bandaid and go cold turkey. Weaning bit by bit just prolongs the habit. Trust...

*sigh* you are right. Tomorrow's eggs will be unsweetened.
Charles, I make a kind of sweet scrambled eggs, it's like French toast without the toast.
It's so hard to imagine going without sweeteners. It's not like I haven't tried before. But I've never lasted more than a few weeks!! It's so hard - I know it helps to brush my teeth when I want a different taste in my mouth, but it's a question of will to do that rather than get something to chew. I'm off chewing gum because I know I can't stop once I start. It's just so difficult to cut it ALL out - but I think you're absolutely right, unless I do it completely I'll probably never get away from them.
Hard, hard, hard... *sigh*
